歴史的な側面から見ても、かつて繁栄を誇っていた時代、例えば1100年から1300年間の中世温帯期は、格別に温暖な気候であった。それとは反して1450年から1890年間の小氷河期と言われた時代は、飢饉、疫病、社会的動乱などが絶えなかった。
2003年にはフランスだけで11000人が熱波で犠牲になったのであるが、ロンドン大学の科学者たちは、寒気のほうがより脅威的であると主張。将来50年間でイギリス国内の熱波による犠牲者は年2000人になるが、寒気による犠牲を20000減少するであろうと推測した。
Hamburg大学の研究員達は、適度な気候の上昇はロシアやカナダなどへの観光客を30パーセント増加させると指摘した。
地球温暖化に伴う海面上昇の問題については、これまで予測されていた5フィート（約1.5ｍ）を大きく下回り0から8インチ（約20ｃｍ）になるとThe International Quaternary Associationが発表。最近の研究では、モルディブの水没も疑問視されている。
温室効果気体からの恩恵も無視できないものである。小麦や米の収穫は18%の上昇、牧草のクローバーは36%の上昇が見込まれている。
興味深い事に、地球温暖化説の原因と考えられてきた温室効果気体よりも太陽エネルギー放出の増大を要因と考える説も存在する。スイスの大気気候科学機関のMartin Wild氏はScience誌にてスモッグの大気汚染の減少が地球の温暖化を招いていると発表した。温室効果気体の削減の為に産業を規制してコストや労力をかけるよりも、むしろ地球の気候の変化にどのように適応していくべきかを重視するべきではないだろうか。例えば、発展途上国において、変化した気候に対応していける作物を開発したり、経済の発展に力を入れるなどである。なぜなら、たとえ今すぐに全ての発電所を停止させ、全ての車や飛行機を使わなくても、地球の気候は依然として上昇するであろう。Stott教授はそのように答えた。
